    HI ;Can any one explain the term " private mutation " to me ..thank you , KAT.

    Hi. I think it means that so far that particular mutation has been found in only one person.

      Private mutations can have more than one person. I have a few, and there are others out there with it (any particular one) also, but with no rhyme or reason (for now).

        They can also be described as mutations that have taken place in different haplogroups, and as such can also be described as "parallel mutations.

        At least, the main thing to remember is "private" does not necessarily mean... "don't share this information", as some have recently thought.
