Any advice on locating close match?
I received my 37 markers and have a person who is 2 generations off but the email is a link [email protected] and this site is now under construction for an appliance repair place. I emailed the person from familytreedna twice with no response. Has anyone ever dealt with this site? Is this person a pro genealogist or a customer?

Try Googling the person's name, and maybe the name of a possible ancestor. You may locate some other site or post about that line.Originally posted by lionstail View Post

I have tried that. To no avail. I also tried to connect genealogy and the name. and different combos of ancestors and dna. But thank you for the suggestion.Comment

What are you looking at that tells you he is 2 generations off? Who did his DNA test? Who did your DNA test? If it was the same company, have you asked them to send him a letter asking that he contact you.Originally posted by lionstail View PostComment

It was familytreedna that posted the match stating that our dna had a genetic distance of 2 and they did both of our tests. I assume that they did his since it was familytree that posted his. Thank You I will try that.Last edited by lionstail; 29 April 2009, 08:30 AM.Comment

Acrually it is a geneteic distance of 2 not generations. Although I am pretty sure at 37 markers that is a pretty good match. but not necessarily generations sorry I used the wrong terminology.Comment

I'm glad you noticed the difference. That shows that you are learning.
Just to give you and idea as to how close is close I have a fourth cousin who is a genetic distance of 1 on 67 markers and a fourth cousin twice removed who is a genetic distance of 4 on 37 markers.Comment

This helps tremendously. someone also recently posted his geacom by my matches. I dont know if familytreedna does this automatically or the person I am compared with. Just curious also does anyone know how to locate orphans beginning in like 1930. The orphanage was located in a major city.Comment

A kind of sad story.
A woman passes away
A womans will is proven [presented to the courts]
- All assets were to have been divided to her 4 children as each turned 21 years of age.
- Her brothers a person and a second person were appt'd. Administrators of her estate and Guardians of her 4 young children.
- Her life insurance policy, farm in a place, 2 rental home properties and 1 additional piece of land were secured in order to provide financially for her children along with ownership assigned over to her brothers someone & someone2.

Gedcom
You have to load you own Gedcom file and then FTDNA will indicate its presents. Go to your "myFTDNA" website site and click on matches under Y-DNA in the left hand column.
Just above the list of your 12 marker matches is a link to upload your results to Ysearch.org. While you are doing that you will be able to upload a Gedcom also. You must build your own Gedcom first.
If you have already uploaded your results to Ysearch.org I believe you'll be able to go there, select the update function and upload your Gedcom.Comment

It isn't the number of people in your information that makes it a Gedcom. Put what you have out there and build on it as you can.Comment
