  • I have just received my Y-DNA Results

    Hello.

I have just received my 12 marker Y-DNA results today.
I have still to get my 13-25 marker results in the future.

It says that my predicted haplogroup is R1b1b2.
    Shorthand: R-M269.

I am Irish, so is this a common haplogroup in Ireland?

    Thank You.

Yes, there is plenty of R1b1b2 in Ireland.

If you have specific questions regarding your haplotype [the string of numbers] you could probably list a y-search ID for people to give their opinions.

On your "My Y-DNA Matches" page, you can click on the link and automatically upload your results to y-search. You can create a y-search account at the same time, so you don't need to create one before you do the upload process.

        Alright.

Now maybe you could let the people that could look at the numbers know the y-search ID.

With only the first 12, your exact matches are in Ireland, England and Scotland.

I know you mentioned waiting for the end of your 25 markers.

Even 37 won't be a great test for an R1b1b2. If you can afford it, 67 markers plus the deep clade R are recommended IF you are looking for true ancestry here.

In other words, even if you come out having a bunch of matches at high numbers, they won't mean anything unless you share the same SNPs / subclade with them.

Too many R1b1b2 haplotypes from too many subclades can look identical when only comparing STR numbers.

Chuckle. Over 80% of Irish are R-M269.

I am currently awaiting my Deep Clade Test and my 67 Marker Y-DNA Results.
