  • Conversion to Ancestry

Have just received more FTDNA results, including DYS441, DYS444, DYS445, DYS446, DYS452 & Y-GATA-A10, & want to be certain as I have had a very good match with only one miss-match so far on Ancestry. I have previously been careful in adding to & converting the values from FTDNA to Ancestry, but just would like a confirmation about the above. As I understand from a conversion chart I've seen, DYS444, 445, 446, 452 don't require any change,
but to add DYS441 to Ancestry is +1, & GATA-A10 is +2. Would some kind person confirm this to me please, as it would be terrible at this point to have the good match spoilt, even though I expect with further markers there may be another missmatch ahead. Thanks

IF you are entering your FTDNA data into the ancestry.com DNA section for comparison, NO CONVERSION IS NECESSARY.

    From their pages:

Enter as FTDNA, and then enter as FTDNA standards.

Conversion happens after you enter the data.

    MANUALLY ENTERING DNA RESULTS
Enter the exact numbers as given to you from Family Tree DNA (FTDNA). Ancestry will automatically convert a few specific markers for database compatibility. While FTDNA does not test the exact same markers, you can add your results and compare them with others in the Ancestry.com DNA database.

Also, don't forget, at the bottom of your "matches" page, you can click on the SMGF Matches to see your matches at Sorenson.

    Good luck!

p.s. IF you are talking about entering that data into ysearch, I believe you have a different matter.

      odd...

it doesn't show up on my husband's matches page...I do find glitches on the page occasionally, but I've never seen a link to Sorenson's on the matches page.
also, I submitted his 37 to Ancestry, but haven't found any way to access it to look at it or check if there's a match-or update it with the new markers.
      any suggestions appreciated.

The SMGF link is at the very bottom of the matches page, on the right.

As to the submission to ancestry, I don't know any way to do it where you wouldn't already know your user name and password.

Sorry I can't help you there, but now you've confused me; what do you mean that it doesn't show up on your husband's matches page?

If you can access a matches page, you are accessing his data.

Updating with new data / markers is easy; there is a link on the DNA page that says something like update / edit results.

There is no link to SMGF from your husbands FTDNA personal page.

If you have entered your husbands dna results at Ancestry, make sure you are logged in and in the Ancestry "DNA" Section. The link is at the top next to Communnity.
Once in the DNA section you should see a page with large dark green lables on the left, "View DNA", "Groups', Visit Groups","Find Matches"
If you had to create a new login/user for your husband, then you must login with that.

The link from Ancestry to SMGF is on the "Find Matches" page at the very bottom.

You can use the Visit Group section to do a search by surname for individuals or for a group. There are a few Moore groups, Moores of Cheshire and moores of Ireland etc..

            Thank you, rucksack, rivergirl

I miss-understood. when rucksack said "your" matches, I took him literally. I thought he meant the "your matches" on Ed's personal page. I didn't know there was another "your" matches, much less one that wasn't literally ours. I'm just as confused by what you're saying.

if I recall correctly, the account at Ancestry was made under me, but I still can't see anywhere that it says "find matches"
            I'm logged in, but I just get this;
Search Our Database by Last Name Go!
Groups: Compare Results, Share Pics & More
            Transfer Results From Other Lab
and below that, Blog, FAQ, success stories, privacy policy.
            no "find Matches".
I'm on the right page, with the 3 largish green windows, and I'm logged in. go figure.

I've gone through the groups on several occasions, but haven't found one that matches with Ed's line.

I guess we'll hear someday of a connection, I've allowed my access information to show.

hmf...updating markers. I went in to Ysearch, hand input an update, 38-60 markers and FT erased it. personally wrote me to tell me they had. personally, I'm a bit steamed right now. first 38-67 test fails. then 37-60 comes through, and the deep-clade is done, but 61-67 failed. again. but neither FT or the people with the test results will do anything with the 38-60. maybe because they're still figuring out the L21 and waiting for the 38-60. but I'm not getting told anything. since we already know that he isn't related to the Moores already posted-except anciently to group 2, there isn't much to watch for right now. thought we'd receive notice of distant matches, though. won't be back until the 27th, that's when the last markers are due.
just do not understand FT removing my input to Ysearch. even if it isn't complete. Ysearch does it by incriments, not marker group.

              Ancestry

              thanks rucksack,
one drawback with Ancestry unless I'm wrong, is if you already have previous results entered from say FTDNA you can't get the automatic coversion if you enter more markers from the same company via the edit page, you must convert these values manually, unless you do the whole lot again via the enter new results. It won't change them via the edit page, as I have tried this, logged out, came back after a few minutes, a found marker values that should be changed haven't been. It's a bit of a pain, entering the whole lot again as new results, just for the sack of peace of mind that the values will be correct. Any other folk have something on that?

Oh my, that is a bit cruddy isn't it.

                Good luck with an answer.

I was once told this, but can't vouch for the truth of it:

To convert to FTDNA DYS452 and DYS463 don't need converting so:-
                To convert Ancestry to Ysearch:
                DYS441 -1
                DYS442 -5
                Y-GATA-A10 -2
                Y-GATA-H4.1 -11

This would only apply to people with already set up accounts, as far as I could guess then?

Maybe you should just re enter your husbands DNA results in the "Transfer results from another lab"
It sounds like it Ancestry does not have them under that login.

As mentioned to you before by Efgen, FTDNA will not show any 67 matches etc... until all the results are in.
The Admin of your project will not be notified until all the 37-67 results are in, and she is probably waiting for them to make a final decision on what group to put you.
