  • fgs - understanding the results

    hi,

i'm looking for help in understanding my fgs-results.
in my fgs there are 8 differences from cr.
if i match with a person (who has 10 differences from
cr) in five of them (and the person also has exactly
the same results like me in hvr1+hvr2), how far is
the genetic distance in terms of being related?

    sincerely
    mrh

I stongly recommend that you send your results to Dr. Ann Turner (founder of the Rootsweb DNA-Genealogy List). For an extremely reasonable fee she will provide a detailed report that reflects her expertise in this area of study. Ann's e-mail is [email protected].

I have, with Ann's permission, included her report on my FGS.

Note though that in general the time scale is large for mtdna, ie, thousands of years per mutation. If I understand correctly, there are 8 coding region differences between you and this other person (5+3). So we are talking about many thousands of years, perhaps even 10,000 or so.
