FTDNA offered a discount on FGS to $360 to J's for the month of May. I think FGS, although expensive, is a better value than HVR2. There is more information in the Mitosearch.org Help forum.

My father's mtdna is exactly the same, and there are only 5 other people with the same HVR1. He did the HVR2 but has no matches.

I, on the other hand, have over 1800 HVR1 matches, and 30 or so HVR2 matches. Because of this we decided to do both HVR1 and 2 for my dad. It may become important as more and more people test.

    Determining next steps...got HVR1 results

    Received my mtDNA, HVR1 results:

    J*
    16069T
    16126C
    16150T
    16519C

I did order the conversion of my results to the Genographic Project.

Wondering if there is value in upgrading to receive HRVR2 results.

My mother was born and raised in Sao Miguel, Azores (Portuguese island) as were several generations before her. What we're unclear about is where our ancestors may have originated from before arriving to the island.

Any advice would be most appreciated and thank you!
