I am absolutely stunned by your test scores!
I wish I had those numbers! 
Almost every one is Spanish!
The first time I took the test with the 21 numbers back in April my scores were alot higher. When I went for the May 7, 08 update they dropped really low! So now those populations don't count. I don't get it!

Well, if we are to take those results as an indication of something, I would say then that your paternal line is Spanish, or so it seems. Although your maternal line could also be from that region as well.Originally posted by katComment

Hi Kat,
Although Mum is waiting for her 21 marker upgrade, she had got as her world match Med for all of her updates and she too doesn't know her US father. Her mother is 100% English.
Her half sister was tested and got very "Germanic" results (Poland etc.) and Mum matched certain ones to her which I'm guessing come from their mother, but there was a clear "sister north, Mum south" pattern with Mum getting matches to Spain, Sicily etc.
Her father was described as "Italian looking" dark skin and hair, although I know looks can be deceiving! She also matches to North India and India very highly which correlates to AbDNA's Euro 1.0 where she got 22% South Asian-didn't you get an SA match too?
I'm thinking we might have some Spanish/Roma heritage, but the 21 markers will be interesting! Will keep you posted, but you seem very Med too

Maria, what do you mean? They still use the same 21 markers, but added new populations. You say your scores dropped and now those populations don't count. When they came out with the 21 marker update I didn't relize that I had the extra 6 markers here at FTDNA. I figured I was going to have to send off another sample and pay 100.00. So I only did the 15 marker update which had really high scores...Then I found out that they were on my personal page so I ordered the 21 marker update and my scores were almost invisible. Can't figure out why they dropped instead of staying or going up.....

Comparing DNAtribes & DNAprint/AncestryByDNA is comparing apples to oranges. DNAtribes uses autosomal STRs, the others use autosomal SNPs. I wouldn't trust autosomal STRs taken together as meaningful at all; autosomal DNA is recombinant & STRs drift, it's like trying to trace sand on a beach to where it originally broke off the coast from rock into particulate matter by it's hue. Even haplogroups can be very ambiguous when looked at by just a couple of STRs. Autosomal SNP testing is the main line of defense when trying to confirm ethnicity, and in the future will define autosomal origins in the same way haploid SNPs define haplogroups now. STRs will be secondary, and used to match close relationships.Comment

Same reason 12 marker Y matches go down the toilet when we upgrade to 25, 37 or 67. Same reason we outgrow our clothes. You bulked-up almost 50% when you went from 15 to 21. The greater the number of markers the higher the hurdle to a match. At 21 markers your profile better represents you, but no longer fits those 'I could be anything' adolescents still imagining their world as eternally size 15.
