Native American Blood

My husband grew up thinking that he was native american. I have been researching his family on his father's side as that is where the native american blood comes in. But so far I have not found any native american family in his grandparents maternal and or paternal lines.

Would having a DNA test done for native american show that he is or is not of native american blood? Does he need to match with someone else?

Why don't you get his mom tested for the mtdna. I grew up thinking that I was 100 percent EUROPEAN spanish... growing up I've always loved and blended in with the Native Americans. I look mix... I took a MTDNA found out that i am ,My dad is too...
