    Genealogy entries of CaptDNA

    - - -
Jim Barrett, You will probably remember the first message by CaptDNA, to form this “Thread”. Part of it is as follows: I took my DNAprint about 1 year ago. My results: 78% European, 22% Native American.
Later I took a sample from my father. The results were a big surprise to both of us. His results: 56% European, 28% Sub-Saharan African, and 16% Native American.
. . . . CaptDNA then states that “I don’t think the results are accurate “. . as written by CaptDNA at the start of this ‘thread’.

Jim, Do you think that these results are BOTH accurate, and if so, would you tell us why you think so, so we can better understand it. Sincerely, John Sanford

It will be recorded with Bible, birth, death, marriage, obits, and census information. . . . . All of these records have been recorded by human beings. All of them are subject to error. . . .
John, I trust FTDNA and I trust my DNA results, but it would not be accepted over all other information if it didn't agree with the other information. Jim Barrett.

John, Would you or CaptDNA tell us the results for his mother's test?

Hello, Jim Barrett, Your non answer is noted. Am I to assume that if a person has two DNA reports, like one on himself and one on his own real father, that could not possibly be both correct and understood and explained, that he should then spend more money to get another report on another person? This would seem to be no solution at all. And certainly not an answer to the question that was stated by me, “ Do you think these tests are Both accurate, and if so would you tell us why . . . ?”
The original “Thread” by CaptDNA stated that “The only explanation is that one of our tests is wrong”. Do you agree with him, and WHY? Sincerely, John Sanford

          John,

From your comment you must assume that CaptDNA didn't receive any DNA from his mother. The number of DNA reports that a person has, has nothing to do with the question that was asked. The results of CaptDNA's DNA Print is made up of the mix of DNA he received from both parents, not just his father. Therefore it is IMPOSSIBLE to answer his original question without knowing the results of his mother's DNA Print. The Y-DNA test compares the Y-Chromosome which is passed from father to son and thus CaptDNA and his father had an exact match as would be expected.

Without the results of CaptDNA's mother's DNAPrint it is impossible to answer his original question, other than to say I would have been very suprised if their results had matched.

Now I'll ask you a question. If I have two cans of paint, one of which is red, and I mix the two cans together, what color will the resulting mix be?

Please reply when the results of her test are available or when you have the correct answer to my question. Please note that I suggested that the test be made on DNA from CaptDNA's mother, not just another person. One very special person. His mother.

          Good luck!

            DNAprint accurate test

I just saw a documentary on chimerism. There were 2 mothers, one in the East and one in the West. One had her dna tested with that of her children so that they might give her a kidney. The other had her dna tested with her children so that she could prove they were her children and receive welfare. Both mothers were tested several times and each time the test showed that they could NOT be the mother of those children. Both mothers knew they had given birth to their babies. As further tests were done, it was proven that they had chimerism. Chimerism is, at this time, thought to be rare. It seems that, in utero, there are 2 embryos that should become fraternal twins. For some reason the embryos fuse together and become one human with dna from both embryos. They can then pass on either set of chromosomes to their offspring. The lady who needed a kidney transplant had 2 sons who did not match and 1 son who did match. Further testing showed that the 2 non matching sons had a perfect match of her husband and her brother! They tested many of her body parts for matching chromosomes for the 2 non matching sons. They all tested negative except for the thyroid. Her thyroid was a perfect match.

I don't know if this is your case or not, but, I thought of this post when I saw the TV show. It is called, "I Am My Own Twin" I think it was on DHLTH and I am sure it will air again. Even if it is not your case, it is a real interesting documentary for anyone interested in dna.
