Since we are doing the Y DNA test that carries down the male line, I have noticed another physical trait that seems to be carried down the male line. I haven't done the SNP test yet but it appears I am of the R1a Haplogroup. Don't laugh but the males in my family have a middle toe on the left foot that is a little longer than other people. The middle toe is almost as long as the toe beside the big toe ! Anyone ever hear of this ?

Yes. I have that too, on both feet. Makes it hard for me to get shoes because I am a woman, and shoe manufacturers love to make women's shoes in Medium and maybe Narrow. My feet are wide and diamond-shaped. The only men who have been tested in my family are probably R1b, by the way, but I haven't tested my father's line yet. He is the only surviving male for several generations and he had no sons. I don't know if he has the "feet". Not something that travels on the Y chromosome, though.

Re: Hereditary / Feet
Are you Celtic? I have read on genealogical websites that the ancient remains of Celts had toes that were unusually long. They were as long as the largest toe. People today who have this trait are most likely descendants of the Celts. Im not sure if this is what youre describing about your family trait and Im not sure exactly where I read this but you might find answers by investigating in the direction of the Celts.

Partly Celtic. My grandfather was Irish (ggrandfather from the auld sod and ggrandmother one generation from it). Also AgnloSaxon, WEstern England (not sure what those people are), Norman, Danish, Scottish etc. Like most physical characteristics, foot shape would travel in recombinant DNA, so it could come from any one or more of my ancestors. Interesting, though, that it might be common among Celtic people.
