    My DeCodeMe results are:

    atDNA:
    European 92%
    African 2%
    Asian 6%

    x DNA:
    European: 87%
    African: 4%
    Asian: 9%..
Can you get an ancestry admixture percentage for every chromosome or only the total? If you can you could find your most Asian or African chromosome.

    • Yes, I can...

Yes, I can get a percentage for each chromosome. Each chromosome has a possibilty of 4 colors. White, no data. Dark blue, European. Green, African and Red, Asian... You can see the different bits of color hanging on to each chromosomes...
Chromosome 4 has the highest Asian score, it comes in at 11.7% and the lowest score is 0.5%.
Chromosome 8 has the highest African score, it comes in at 7.9% and the lowest score is 0.1%.

      • Maria, how much is this Decodeme test? Has the price decreased some, or has it stayed the same?

        • 1,000.00

As far as I know it is still 1,000.00 but to me it is well worth the price.

Thank you. That's a lot! I guess, in the future, I will try it.

            • Emotions...

Yes, it is alot of money. I have never paid that much money for anything for myself before. I admit that I took this test based on a purely emotional level!

I wonder if the same is true for other DCM testers?

There are a couple of threads on the subject at http://www.dna-forums.org. Basically the answer to your question is yes. I think that I have to date the highest percentage African on the X chromosome among those who do not have any documented African ancestry, but this is likely just a statistical anomaly.

23ANDme is far more "conservative" and likely to provide zero values in cases where deCODEme has for example 8& East Asian. They are clearly using a very different algorithm with the result being that one does not know what to believe at this point in time.

I guess we wait and watch. Both companies are well aware of the "demand" for ancestry testing so hopefully they will step up to the plate and analyze haploblocks known to be found only among certain groups such as Indigenous American and so on.

                  • Error in results?

                    DKF
It apparent that you aren't pleased with the results DeCodeMe gave you... That you didn't expect the African result because you have no known heritage.. You say its an statistical anomoly. Since the score is at least 8% you are implying that the error rate is at least 8%. How does this happen? Where is the information that states the error rate for ethnic percentages..

                      Will you try 23andMe?

I don't know if they are correct. If I had taken 23ANDme the results would have been different. These companies need to get their act together and strive for consistency. It was a either - or choice. I am about to retire. It would be a tad difficult to justify taking another (largely redundant) expensive test - although if they offered just their Y chromosome panel I might take the bait since a couple of phylogenetically significant of private (family) SNPs could emerge.

                        • Ought one expect to see, in a million SNP scan, residual African ancestry in all testers? Has anyone discerned any pattern to the distribution, such as consistent African readings in telomeric regions of Chr. 6, or some such?

deCODEme use 17K using the linked model in STRUCTURE for the admixture analysis, however if you feed a 10K set of data into STRUCTURE using the standard admixture model assuming independent loci no African admixture appears for individuals reporting African admixture in their deCODEme ancestry report.

                            • So if I start saving now and took the test July 2009, are we likely to see more accurate results? How quickly are these companies improving and adding more data?

One would hope that in a years time that there would be progress made and maybe a Native American category too...I can dream can't I!
ABDNA has had my daughter and grandaughters results for 24 days now. Can't wait to get the results... Have about 3-5 weeks left for results...
I have no idea why my mother got 7% Amerindian, I got 10% Amerindian and my daughter got 14% Amerindian.
