  • Viking DNA / mutations, etc.

I'm new to this but have a couple of questions. I have the DYS426=12 and DYS392=11 which I understand could indicate a Norse line, which could make sense with my family. According to what I have read the Norse/Viking would also have DYS390 =25 and DYS 19=16. However on the DYS390 and DYS 19 markers I have 26 and 15 instead of 25 and 16 respectively. Could that just be mutations ? or is there a branch of the Norse type.

    SNP test

A SNP test is the "ONLY" way to be sure as to which haplogroup you belong to. The test cost $100 and is well worth the expense. Ask the folks at FTDNA and they'll be more than glad to explain the test to you.

I do not believe any small number of matches will determine
that one is descended from Viking ancestors.
And haplogroup I does not mean Viking either.

It is much like saying many Vikings have red hair
      I have red hair
      Thus I am a Viking.
