  • Interesting Results

I have just received by DNA results.

I am curious as to what my mtDNA results actually mean. I did not expect to get three strong matches.

    Any insight would be appreciated.

To have a good mtDNA match you need an exact match on both HVR1 and HVR2.

this is an unambiguous L2a1, not an X haplotype. You have tons of matches.

        Thanks.

I only copied what was in my profile.

I was confident that someone on these forums would resolve this for me.

          l_e_m:

if you want to learn more about L2a, you can check the following scientific article:

          http://www.journals.uchicago.edu/AJH...72/024272.html

It is rather difficult to read, but it discusses L2a. It is apparently the most frequent haplogroup both in Africa and among African Americans.
          More specifically about the US:
          http://www.journals.uchicago.edu/AJH...631/40631.html

          Quoting from the article:
"Haplogroup L2a is the most common and widely distributed sub-Saharan African haplogroup and is also frequent in the Americas (∼19%). The wide distribution of L2a in Africa makes identifying geographical origins of lineages difficult."
