  • Ireland and it's Tribes

I just posted this statement but have been eyeing that thread..on the Balkans etc..

Maybe I should start an Ireland and Tribes thread?Someone needs to help me out on it..like Tom or anybody else with R1b1c and other BIG haplogroup experience..
    AND
My maternal grandfather is I1b1b and I have since the first of the year been employing an Irish researcher who definitely groups my family in Ireland in 3 Norman built villages since 1275.My greatgrandfather comes to this country as a child in 1869 from Fethard Tipperary a Norman walled town.
Additionally my sister and I both test strongly autosomally for Estonian and Polish.

The reason I have been doing the Irish stuff has to do with these matches..I wanted to make sure we did not skip in and out of Ireland fairly recently..we did not

My ancestry is primarily Irish.. 2/3 to 3/4 if not more...my paternal line,Carrow are from Antrim and Lochcarron Scotland c. 1643 when they come to Eastern Shore MD/VA/DE.

My mtDNA J2 is Margaret Lynch of Cork in 1840.

I do have an unknown grandfather but I ( And my sister)HEAVILY match other populations..including Salish NA which both Lucas at DNA Tribes and I have now discounted..

    Ireland Tribes

As I mentioned, my genealogy is mostly Irish. My autosome and what I decipher of my X markers looks more Baltic and Scandinavian.

I DO have a Great Great Grandfather from Sweden or Denmark..and 4th great from Alsace(probably).. but the majority of my ancestors are Irish.

My Sister's markers on ENSFI look like this:
    #1 Ireland
    #2 Toulouse,France
    #3 Denmark
    #4 Poland
    #5 Germany
    #6 Estonia
    #7 North Ireland
    #8 Switzerland
    #9 Austria
    #10 Sweden

    Mine is #1 Estonia,Croatia,Germany,Scotland,Ireland,North Ireland,Poland..in that order..

    So how does that happen??
My maternal grandfather's father came from Ireland in 1869 and he marries an Irish girl here.... They are Sardinian I1b1b. Most definitely Norman French in origin as told to me years ago.. I find them living in 3 areas all within 15 miles of each other as the crow flies..and very close to where I find Walter Lenfant in 1275.Fethard Tipp. founded by Wiliam deBraose around then.Walter is the Justiciar of Ireland.

My Carrow line is proving out(So far) to also follow along the lines of the oral family tradition..Irish from Antrim (Portglenone) and Lochcarron Scotland. They are in MacDonald clan...R1b1c...they also match others found in that Clan named Houstin/Huston and Clifford and Gilles...
    Why is that I wonder..??

My Swanson family( my only outcross family..not Irish) Retta Swanson marries Ed Faunt 1st generation Irish-American..Retta's grandmother who is my J2 was Maggie Lynch from Cork in 1841.So we still have Irish here..

    And I am Estonian??

Co-administrator of the Finland DNA-project is Michael Swanson. His Swanson family is originally from Finland. If you would like to discuss the Swansons with him, you can find his email at the bottom of the front page of the project's website at

          Probably not.

Autosomal tests, especially ones using CODIS markers, just are not very good at answering the "where do I come from" kind of questions.

It would be interesting to see and compare the ENFSI matches of others of primarily 'Celtic' ancestry - more than 50%. Those results ought to be based-on the full ENFSI standard (D2 and D19) and the entire range of ENFSI matches should be shown. It would also be good to have respondents include their Y and Mt haplogroups, if known.

The object is to discern, if possible, patterns across compared lists.
