This is a very good idea for a thread. I would love to see if people look like what their tests say.

My AncestryByDna result was 83 % European, and 17% Native American. I have no known Native American ancestry. I expected 100% European, or a possible 97% Euro, 3% East Asian (if I had any Hun or Mongolian blood in me).

DNATRIBES has a database of 567 global populations, and they match me to 254.
My top 20 native matches include Mozambique, Pakistan, & Syria.
I also match Maori, West Polynesian, Oriya Brahmin (India), Zulu, and so on. Out

I'm American. All my known ancestors came here from Europe, mostly the British Isles.

Rainbow, to me you do look like you have either Native American or East Asian ancestry. (I would assume NA however.)

Do you know all of the women in your family history? Because most people's non-European ancestors came into the the bloodlines through the women, this history is often difficult or even impossible to find.

Hopefully sometime we will be able to order an autosomal test that is actually accurate. I am skeptical of the ones currently on the market. Maybe Ethnoancestry's will be a good one.

I had thought my look was because one grandfather was of Czechoslovakian descent. I had thought there may have been Mongolian or Hun. He died in 1949. I have acquired just one pic, of his face, and he doesn't seem to have high cheekbones.
The other 3 grandparents were from families that have been here in the US for centuries, and were of British & Northwest European descent.

This is the only photo I have that shows his face. I have one other photo of him, but it's just the back of his head. Below is a photo of my father as a baby with his parents. Since my mother has 00% Native American, the 17% I have must be from my father. Since my fathers father was of Czechoslovakian descent, the Native American must be from my paternal grandmother, seen on the right. Her family has been in the US since 1650.

My mom has a 5% East Asian from AncestryByDna.

My 17% NA must be either an error, or comes to me from my paternal grandmother, from New Jersey. I have her family tree, compiled by one of her brothers many years ago. It neglects the female lines, and is solely a son-to-son list. It lists the names of the wives in each generation, but nothing about their families. All the names are European.

I recently found out that there were children from various Native American tribes sent to live in a boarding school in Pennsylvania, to be assimilated, and that many had later worked/lived in various towns in New Jersey.

I've seen a few people list their 'phenotype' in their signature. I wonder what my 'phenotype' is. How/where can I find out mine?
My picture is in my signature. My hair is actually lighter than it appears in the photo, and is naturally wavy. The foundation I'm wearing in the pic covers my somewhat pinkish complexion.

At http://dienekes.angeltowns.net/calc/rac/indexf.html there is a tool by which you can anonymously fill in measurements of your head and compare them with an old photographic database of supposed European types.

I don't necessarily endorse those findings. But in my case, the geographical correlation between my DNA Tribes results and the photographic database (male version http://dienekes.angeltowns.net/calc/rac/ ) was remarkable.

I had thought 'phenotype' was based on coloring. It's based on measurements?! I noticed that half-circle thing. I don't remember what it's called. I have to use that to take head measurements??? All I have is a fabric tape measurer in my sewing box.
I guess I can't send off for a test and have someone else figure it for me.

Phenotype describes all properties of an organism. You can concentrate on coloring instead of head measurements if you like, but not with that photographic database.

A carpenter's folding rule can substitute for calipers. Anything that opens wide enough to span the head without moving when you take it away.
