Ethnic DNA Codes

Hi all!

I was wondering if the 25 marker Y-DNA test revealed specific ethnic origins (ie. Scottish, Irish, Welsh, English, German, Spanish, etc.) ?

I am trying to profile a direct ancestor we know very little about.
In theory his DNA markers and mine should be identical.

The response from Mark at Family Tree DNA is as follows:

“There are not particular markers that allow for differentiation between those Western European countries; that period of time-the most recent settling of Western Europe was relative to the entire scope of the human species’ time here on the planet is very brief-too brief for DNA to have differentiated itself in a way that allows us to say that this is German DNA versus Scottish DNA versus British DNA and so on.”

The clue appears to be in the Haplogroup (re: R1a, R1b etc.) and in the Recent Ethnic Origin REO information which shows the close matches and paternal ancestory.

Makes sense. Romans, Celts, Ostrogoths, Visigoths, Vandals (north Africa!) Slavs, all populated Europe, most without regard to Names and borders created by the rise of powerful kings in the 14th century. (The Franks are a bit of an exception, we'?)
