If you are interested in autosomal DNA, or x-DNA that behaves somewhat like autosomal DNA, you always ought to test as far back up your genealogical lines as possible. Even if your interest is in the establishing of paternity or maternity, samples from elders (even contested elders) is indispensible.

Multiple family members tested for X and Autosomal markers?

I have been told that it may be worthwhile for me to submit a sample for Autosomal and X information even though both my parents have previously submitted samples. I don't know anything at all about Autosomal or X DNA but I would have guessed that anything my test may reveal would have previously been expressed in my parents results. If it would be beneficial for me to submit a sample as well then could someone help me understand why?
