  • South Asian Autosomal DNA

    Question for all,

On DNAPrint Test, (which I know has come under much fire) I had a score of MLE as 20% South Asian (East India/Pakistani)

My question is what is the average percentage in Anglo Americans in regards to South Asian DNA ancestry and the possible sources for it?

You may find more infor in ABDNA's online manual..

According to Tab 4 South Asian score of 6% is to be expected among the Irish, 1.5% among general north euros, 15.5% among Iberians, 10% Italians, 8.3% US Caucasians, 14.1% Turkish.

      Pretty High then

Pretty High then, surprised by results, and I can not relate to another group especially since there is only 2% Middle Eastern and about 11% Southeastern European.

Interesting and what I am thinking

Given our confidence from the pedigree, we can now ask from where might this MIDEA and SA ancestry have come? Most likely, the mother had a significant number of Western/Central Asian, Middle Eastern and/or South Asian ancestors sometime within the past thousand (or more or less) years. For example, perhaps some of her ancestors were Roma gypsy, or perhaps some were Bedouin Arabs who settled in Europe within the past 1,000 years. The mother in this case feels such non-NOR, non-MED ancestry likely came from her mother rather than her father, since much more is known about the latter individuals ancestors. To form hypotheses like these from a single test result, one would need to see a relatively high level or MIDEA and/or SA ancestry, but lower levels are useful for forming such a hypothesis when results are available from multiple individuals within a pedigree. For this reason, to form the most sound hypotheses of your distant anthropological heritage, we recommend testing your mother and father if possible, your spouse and/or some of your brothers, sisters and children (i.e. in as many individuals in your immediate family as possible).

            On the other Percentages

The European was broken down as 95% European and 5% Sub Saharan African. I probably also have some Native American as the bar graph was up to 6% but in doing the standard research the tribe was much mixed with African early on. I also have a oral history of "Black Dutch"

The European breakdown was 67% European, 20% South Asian, 11 Southeastern European (Greek/Turk), 2% Middle Eastern

That is the way my test was also, it showed about 5% plus or minus on the red bar graph for Native American. I assume my 8% East Asian is Native American since we do have it in our family. The other was 92% IE.
One of my Uncles is still getting Japanese and N India as his top matches rom DNATribes.

                EA vs NA

I had zero EA but from what I understand it that It is hard for the test to tell the difference between EA and NA. The DNA Tribes test perhaps may be the way to go. Many of the tribes who absorbed other peoples may be resulting in these percentages.

Most of the MLE in my test shows Northern European, but there is enough South Asian and Sub Saharan African to point to early admixture of other ancestries in the biological makeup.

Dude, a while back, like a few months ago, you said you were a member of an Indian reservation, and now you find out you are 20% real(authentic) Indian from India-I'd think you'd be really happy to have a little. Native American Indians don't consider themselves to be Indians from India, that's why I call you kind of Indian"real authentic"-Maybe Native Americans are some other kind of Indian, who knows? I feel this generations Dna research shouldn't lead to bafflement, but self understanding, and whatever we are mainly, that's what we should be classified, with personal specialities being studied by the individual who has them.

                    Never said

Perhaps you have me mixed up with someone else. I never said that I was a Native American Indian on a reservation although I have traced my ancestry back to a Native American tribe but no Native American tribe in the Southeast even back in the 1700's was 100% Native American. They had mixed with all kinds of people and South Asian from Florida and South Carolina was part of the mix as well.

Actually, I like the fact of being "mixed". The Mestizo score on the DNATribes was high, so what does that tell me?

Louisiana is very multi ethnic stew of people.

                    regards,
                    BW
