    If you think the African part came from a female, then this would not show up in anybody's Y chromosome. But it may show up in the mtDNA. If you meant that your Grandfather's mother was supposed to be African, then you can test your grandfather's mtdna - if it's L, it is African. If it was your grand-grandfather's mother who was African, then the mtdna doesn't show up in your lineage, because your grandfather has the mtdna of his mother. In this case, you need a living female descendant. For instance, if your grand-grand father had a sister.

    Anyway, the point is, if you have specific information on where the African part came from, then you can use a Y chromosome or an mtdna test on a suitable living descendant, if such person exists.
