Can someone answer this question for me? Which of the 12 Jewish tribes do the Ethiopian Jews come from? Is it Levi? How would it be determined? Would you need bones from someone from the tribe of Levi from Biblical times or live people of today?
Such a study could be based on current populations but I doubt any of the tribes of Israel had or have totally distinctive y-DNA or mt-DNA haplotypes. Even the Cohen Modal Haplotype is not tribally restricted or restricted to a single y-DNA haplogroup.
