What is the difference in X-STR tests and results for men and women? The root of the question is the fact that men have one X-chromosome and women have two. The answer is probably simple, but I have not found where it is explained in detail.
My test is in Batch 174, due date 11/22 on Personal Page, 11/27 on GAP. Wonder why the different dates?

A sample from a male would yield only one set of alleles but a sample from a female would yield two.

Importantly just as with autosomals, you cant tell from what side these two alleles come from so you must test a father or son to find out.

And if the sample comes from a male he can be assured his single x-chromosome came from his mother. Females get one x from their father and one x from their mother.
