I uploaded my raw data to GEDMatch and looked through all of the calculators. I only know my maternal ancestry which is mainly welsh, english and irish as well as a Lithuanian great grandparent and some Norwegian and German ancestry somewhere down the line. My fathers ancestry I’m not sure of other than the fact that he is half Middle Eastern half European. What I noticed though is on all of the calculators my Single Population distance is quite high, it’s usually 10 and above for all of them except for one on MDLP. I get Moldavian at 3.92 and then Croatia, Serbian and Romanian follow at 4.18,4.27 and 4.31. Those are the lowest numbers I get on any single population distance. And then with other MDLP cals I get these results https://ibb.co/gMCR8DF What does this mean? When I ask on other forums I don’t get an answer, all I get told is that ‘you don’t have Balkan DNA so those calcs don’t work’

I am not an expert but usually those higher distance figures are normal for someone who is mixed, even just mixed European and you have another factor like your Middle Eastern. You are right the closer you are genetically to that population and mixed mode is their opinion on what mix of 2 populations you are closest to. I had 94.5% Austrian and 5.5% Sindi on one of those on the mixed mode, which compared to my Family Tree results is mostly European and 5% Middle Eastern (Asia Minor) and some other trace. My husband was born in Mexico and so most people from there have European, Indigenous Americas with sometimes African and Middle Eastern and he will show distant from even the closest pure populations. In theory, a person who is from say Norway and all his ancestors back generations should get a 1.0 to Norwegian. A person who is half Norwegian and half Spanish would have a more distant factor.
Sorry if that is what you already understand of this... and were you on MDLP World or World22 test?
