  • Native results on Omnipop.

Well I just downloaded Omnipop. I decided just to do the strictly Native American results for right now since I know alot about my non native family. Heres the results after my husband put in the 13 markers. Have no idea what some of the abbrevations stand for.

Michigan Native American 4.29E16 best and lowest one, hum!
    PBSO/BCWP Native American 1.32E18
    NCSBI Lumbee 1.83E19
    RCMP Coastal B.C., Salishan 3.59E19
    Minnesota Native American 1.37E20
    Athabaskan, Alaska 4.47E20
    Navajo 1.00E21
    Saskatchewan, Canada 1.20E21
    Northern Ontario, Canada 2.89E21
    Apache 4.12E21
    Inupiat, Alaska 2.59E22
    Yupik, Alaska 9.23E22

Feel free to correct if needed. Maria

When you click the "show frequency" macro button, the right side should show a sorted list with the top match first.

      Yes, it did.

Yes, I saw the acending order. I had about 100 matches anywhere from e16 to e22. I have matches in most categories. Caucasian, Hispanic, Native American, Asian, African American. Like I said this was just for native results. Now what does the number mean? Does 4.29E16 mean 4.29e with 16 0's after the e? Does it mean 1 in 4.29 Native Americans in Michigan have the same markers? Will post each category seperately and together. Maria

Just change the format to number with many decimals and extend the cell size.

Did you run all the markers through together? If so what was your top score if you don't mind me asking?
              Ours was Argentinian 8.28 E15.
Lowest for each marker pair as follows:
Yupik Alaska 3.32E0 (followed by other NA tribes)
              Chueta Spain E01
              Puna Argentina 5.67E0
              Tunisian 4.78E0
              Naga India 4.24E0
              ABI Caucasian 5.66E0
              Chueta Spain 1.38 E1
              India 1.49E1
              Vietnam 7.74E0
              Morocco 5.06E0
              Caucasian 1.47E1
Navajo 2.93E0 (followed by other NAtribes)
              Navajo 2.12E1
              Be quite interesting to compare!

                At what point?

How does one interpet Omnipops results. If I just want to know my best matches for Native American category, how many listings can I use.. I have 12 but theres a jump of 2 points there. What do you consider with in a good range. Example my 1st and best match for Native American is Michigan Native 4.29E16 then I don't have another match till PBSO/BCWP Native American 1.32E18. At what point is it unrealistic to think that you match. Maria

It isn't about absolutes, it is only about comparisons. If you enter a profile, a marker pair, or a homozygotic allele you will get a range of returns. The "most likely" match is the match with the best numbers - lowest E# and smallest odds number (CSFS and Omnipop). If your match on any run is better to Caucasians than to Natives you are "most likely" Caucasian. If the numbers are close you might want to run the same set on another database to see what it returns.

This number - 2.45E6 - is 6 orders of magnitude better than 2.45E12.
This number - 2.45E20 - is twice as good as 4.90E20

                    Burto.
Haven't had much time to look through it yet. I am the sole caregiver for my physically challenged parents. Quick scan at the top best Portuguese at 2.87E16 then at the very bottom at Yupik(Alaska) at 9.23E22. A whole range of numbers from E16-E22. Nothing like your scores which seem very strong.
AncestryByDNA has me at Native American 10%, Indo European 90%.
Euro 1.0 at 23% South Asian, 23% Middle Eastern, 47% Northern Europe and 7% Southeastern Europe.
                    FamilytreeDNA: H1a
DNA Tribes Native Panel: Salishan 0.047, Chol 0.003, Inupiat 0.001
DNA Tribes has me totally confused. Like they say I am all over the map with my results. So I'm not sure what to think. I had 1 basic and 3 updates and they keep changing. I will do each group apart and then all together in order. Maria

                      What good is Omnipop?

I had around 98 entries for my markers ranging from E16-22. I was all over the place too. Several examples, the 12 entires for Native Americans, ranging from E16-22. Another example i have 14 Hispanic entries ranging from E17-E19. 2 in the E17, 11 in E18 and 1 in E19. How does this help me figure out my heritage? I have found unverified information that I have ancestors from Spain and Portugal as the result of medival royal families marrying outside of counties, one is the the Plantagents (among a few more royal families)but back in the 1200 and 1300's. I am not really sure now what the point is of using these databases since my understanding is from you all corresponding to the companies that it isn't meant for this. So? Are all of these entires of value? If I have 20 entries at E16, 7 at E17 and 10 at E 20. Should the E16'S be the only one I pay attention to? Maria

Go for your lowest score for each marker pair then see if there is a pattern. It uses the same idea as Tribes and RCMP.
It just needs to be viewed as with the others-that it is a rough idea of geographical location. From what I have learnt about my scores I am of Anglo Saxon/Slavic/Mediterranean/Native American descent. However the only bit I can definately confirm is the Anglo Saxon. So basically European with a small bit Native American. The scores you are getting just mean that you aren't as close to someone with say E0 scores to that population. Just compare those scores to your others and see if there is a pattern.

                          Hi Maria,
I guess I'm not sure if it's any more or any less helpful than the DNA Tribes Report, but what I'm thinking is that they may have a different set of samples from DNA Tribes from which they compare. I put my Gram's markers in (her ABD2.5 was 82% Sub-Saharan African & 18% European, but her DNA Tribes report was very Indian & Asian, mtDNA = L3). The numbers don't help much because the chance of finding an exact match among a particular population exceeds the actual sizes of the population, but I find it fun anyway.

Gram's markers were only among 99 of the 179 populations in the calculations: Top 5 -
                          Moroccan Arabs 6.71E+18
                          Inupiat (Alaska) 2.11E+19
                          Portuguese 2.51E+19
                          Korean 3.81E+19
                          Trinidad African American 6.65E+19

                          Last: 5.22E+24

                            Hi Sonia.

As I posted I had results for 99 entries, ranging from 16-22. I have 7 entries that were E16. Portugese 2.78E16, Southern Croatian 4.25E16, Michigan Native American 4.29E16, Podlasie(N.E. Poland) 6.29E16, VDFS Caucausian 6.56E16, RCMP Combined Caucasian 9.33E16, FBI Caucasian 9.94E16. I noticed that your grandmother didn't have any numbers below E18? I don't have any numbers under E16. I am 10% Potowomeck, Native American, Virginian Algonquian. Looks like I might need to find out what they mean by Michigan Native American anyone? Thats such a generic term. Well I will have to see what tribes are from Michigan. I am 90% Indo European according to AncestryByDNA. Maria

Have you tried doing it by each allele pair?
These are top 5 scores for Mum by entering every allele:

                              Argentinian (47) 8.28E+15
                              Portugese (6) 1.07E+16
                              Moroccan Arabs (6) 1.33E+16
                              Oriya Brahmin (India) (61) 1.75E+16
                              Albanians (Northern Italy) (12) 2.33E+16

So once again for us a strong Mediterranean score....the top 30 are mostly of Caucasian descent:
                              8 Mediterranean
                              2 Brazilian
                              1 Hispanic
                              1 Native American
                              1 Tunisian
                              1 Indian
                              and 11 Caucasian

So these scores again fit my pattern. Putting in each allele pair breaks it down a bit more.
