  • Ethnicity DNA

I'm trying to find a place where I could do a DNA test for ethnicity in percentage.. I have already found my Y-chromosome haplogroup, which is R1b3 (North-Sea Baltic Subclade). Some kind of Anglo-Saxon invader DNA, but I was phenotypically classified as having Finno-Ugric admixture (East-Baltid).. Is it possible to use this Ethnicity DNA test to determine my ancestors from mother's father's side? He was Polish and Ukrainian.. I am trying to determine if I have any East Asian in me.. Does anyone know I could do one for a good price?

There is only one vendor of a percentage admixture test - www.ancestrybydna.com

Although you might want to check-out - www.dnatribes.com

These are not exactly comparable tests, so I suggest you read all that is available on each site to determine which is best for your needs. Ancestrybydna also has a follow-on test - Euro 1.0 - you might want to check that out as well given your known ancestry.

Genetree.com an entity of Sorenson Labs does an Autosomal DNA test and gives results by percentage.

Genetree, and many other outfits, resell the ONLY percentage ancestry test available - AncestryByDNA. Doesn't matter who you buy it from. But the only place you can read about it in depth is - www.ancestrybydna.com

Are Eastern Europeans known for having East Asian ancestors then? Does anyone know if that includes Scandinavians, in particular the Saami?

Yes. Google "uralic-altaic languages of Europe" for overviews of the long-accepted linguistic evidence. Cavalli-Sforza is one source for the genetic evidence.

Yes it says even on the genetree DNA site under ancestry by DNA.. It says that many Russians/Eastern Europeans have at least 10% East Asian DNA. I wouldn't doubt it either..

My Mum has 11% East Asian 89% European and her unknown fathers' surname was Johnson which is why I asked with regards to the Sami.
What should we look for on the Euro test and the DNATribes test to suggest paternal scandinavian/Eastern European heritage rather than Native American to account for this 11% East Asian? Just exploring every possibility so I know what to look for when the results come back!

Euro 1.0 will only indicate origins from European regions. Any Scandinavian should be Northern. Don't know how they define the Baltic but Eastern Europe is a candidate region for Asian influence.

Tribes will give Native and Global matches to populations whose ethnicity you can research on the web and Continental matches that indicate origins in any of 16 world regions. And you also get the markers that can be searched on 3 databases - csfs, str-base, omnipop.

If you get any Tribes "Hispanic Diaspora" matches on Global that is a pretty good indication of Native American.

But yeah, it can be difficult to parse Baltic from Native - I ran my strongest Native scores from csfs on enfsi and came-up with strong Baltic scores - Finland and Estonia. And I have a maternal gf named Nelson ... but he could be a fiction.

Did you ever get the WW2 service records?

Yeah got 40 of the damn things to search through only got enlistment records so need to contact relatives and ask if they were in England at such and such a date. Most are from Eastern States don't know if that sheds any light on particular groups that may have settled?

So is there a connection between peoples that live in the arctic circle I wonder? Saw a programme on people living in Siberia who had Shamanism as their religion, lived in Tipi's, had similar music and language to some Native Americans. The Sami seem to be similar too in their dress, music, spirituality and housing. Just a thought...

I suppose most Arctic folks are fairly near cousins as compared to all other populations in the world. Native Americans are cousins of Evenks, Yakuts, etc, of Russia.
