Yep, my surname is Pearson. My Pearsons were Quakers that settled in North Carolina in the early 1700s. My branch of the family migrated into Indiana in the early 1800s. There are are several other branches out there that I'm just now locating that west south as well. After WWII mygrandfather brought his family to Texas and that's where I'm at.

The R1bSTR44 pretty much correlates with the RAO data collected. Out of 200+ Y-DNA 12 markers matches, over half of them are from Ireland, Scotland, and England. My Pearson ancestor lived in the region of England, just south of the Scottish border and directly east of Ireland.

Now if could just find that one person living in that region that matches me a 37 or 67 marker test.....

If you look at the geographic origins table here, you can see from where the ancestors of other members of R1bSTR44 came.

Looks like England, elsewhere in the UK, Ireland, Scandinavia, and "Western Europe".

It would be nice if "Western Europe" were broken down into specific nations, but it apparently excludes Iberia (Spain and Portugal), because Iberia has its own heading on the table. It obviously excludes the British Isles, as well, for the same reason.

I ran your haplotype against Dr. John McEwan's collection of R1b subcluster modals using Dean McGee's Utility.

If you would like to try that yourself to check what I did, just let me know. I can send you the R1b subcluster modals and instructions in an email.

Anyway, one subcluster stood out as your closest match by far. Nothing else was anywhere near as close.

To my surprise, given your odd value of 21 at DYS390, you were only 5 away from the R1bSTR22-Frisian subcluster modal. Believe me, that is a good fit!

That is pretty amazing, since your next closest subcluster was R1bSTR33 at double that distance (10 away).

I would say you belong in R1bSTR22-Frisian.

Here is a chart showing the geographic origins of those in the STR22 subcluster (and all the other subclusters).

The men in the R1bSTR22-Frisian subcluster have a high incidence of a positive result at the newly-discovered SNP S21. Since that is the case, and you are so close to the Frisian subcluster, you might want to consider having an S-series test.

FTDNA does not currently test for the S-series. The S-series is available only from Ethnoancestry.

Why test for S21?

Well, a recent study done by Dr. Jim Wilson and his colleagues found that over 75% of the R1b men in North Germany and the Netherlands are S21+ and 75% of the R1b men in Norway are S21+. That means S21 is a pretty strong indicator of North Germanic/Scandinavian ancestry.

Since you are evidently of British ancestry (I believe you listed your earliest known ancestor as having an English surname), S21+ could mean either Anglo-Saxon or Viking.

The only way to find out is by having an S-series test.

You should send an email to Dr. John McEwan at [email protected] with your name, your YSearch ID number, and your partial SNP results (copy and paste the SNP results directly from your FTDNA personal home page). John can double check my work and make sure you belong in R1bSTR22-Frisian. He is the real expert.

I envy you, Patrick. I don't fit so well in any of the subclusters.

I have ordered an S-series test, though. The results should come sometime in September, God willing.

Anyway, I hope all this helps.

Did you get a report of those SNPs for which you tested positive, like this:
M173+ M207+ M269+ M343+ P25+ ?

Did they give you a negative report on M73 (R1b1b), since you are R1b1c?

It appears to me that you are doing okay on your partial Deep SNP-R1b results. You have most of them.

You still need news on M37 (R1b1c1), M153 (R1b1c4), and M160 (R1b1c5).

Thus far you are negative for M18 (R1b1a); M73 (I'm assuming you are negative there - R1b1b); M65 (R1b1c2); M126 (R1b1c3); SRY2627 (R1b1c6); M222 (R1b1c7) and P66 (R1b1c8). That last negative report, P66, is pretty amazing, because most of us are still waiting on that SNP. I am.

I guess that I have some bad DNA since FTDNA is having problems with my deep SNP test for R1b and DNA markers 38-60. I did get the results for markers 61-67 back today and 1-37 a few weeks ago.

So far they have listed me as R1b1c and said that I am -m126 -m18 -m22
-m65 -p66 & -SRY2627.

I have one 12 marker match and zero 25 or 37 marker matches.

Here are my results so far. The DYS390 and a couple of others are throwing me off and I am just getting real curious about the end results.
