  • Could someone please explain?

We just got the first 25 of our 67 marker test, and they show that we have a 12 marker match with someone who has the same last name. When comparing 25 markers, we are off by 4. Does this mean that we are still related somewhere in the distant past?

We also have 12 people with 25 markers, that are a genetic distance of 2...but not the same last name. What does this mean?

How many markers can you be off with someone else, before there really is no relation?

    Thanks for your help!

      Thank you!

Thanks for replying so quickly, Jim. When you said it could be 6 markers off before you are really not related, does that correspond to 25 markers? If so, how many off on 37 marker and 67 marker tests?

      Thank you!

Sorry to disagree but probably not 21/25 is probably not related.
