Reference behind maps at Relative Genetics

Relative Genetics has some interesting maps of haplogroup concentration:

The question is, What is their reference for these? Are they using scholarly research only? Their own statistics from customers only, or also? Publicly available statistics from other testing companies (e.g., Ysearch)?

I do wish the maps offered the ability to superimpose modern borders, just so I could be sure I was describing the minor centers correctly.

I have wondered about the same things.

The shading seems a bit too precise to me, but what do I know?

It would be helpful if RG provided some sort of bibliography for those maps.

One thing seems apparent: the shading is based on proportion rather than numbers. For example, it is fairly obvious that there are more R1bs in Germany than in the Pyrenees, but their proportion of the general male population is relatively smaller.

It would also be interesting to see maps based strictly on numbers, i.e., where the biggest populations of a particular y-haplogroup are found.

I'm certainly no expert, but if you use only the green boxes in the upper left hand corner (don't type, just click and select your marker values) you'll get results. As far as I know it's only for autosomal markers. Good luck

I followed your directions. It works! Now that I have my values entered what do I do ? I tried: show map, show frequencies, all the tabs, but no information came up that I could understand. Is there some kind of calculation that omnipop does so you can have a list of all the types of ancestors you have ( with percentages ? ) or do you have to figure that out yourself ? Where are people getting those list of all their heritages and the amounts? My mother's side is where the mystery is. My godmother, who is also my aunt, knows the history, but she is not talking. She celebrated her 100th birthday in May 2007, rode to the party on the back of my cousin's motorcycle. She says she is not doing triple digits; we may never know the family secrets/history. Sure hope she changes her mind, but I am going the dna route so maybe some of the stories can be verified. My grandfather' mother was native american, maybe, or could just be a story. We walk on the heads of our ancestors, read that somewhere. evbdv

The "show frequencies" shows populations that the alleles "match" in order from "most likely to match" to "least likely to match". Look for known ancestry and your suspected ancestry and see where they fall in the list. Percentages of your makeup are not given.
