  • Changing my name...

    My name is Larry Peters and I joined FTDNA in 2017. I bought two kits. I used kit number B....9 for my own DNA. My brother-in-law Brendan used kit number B....2 for his DNA. I'm not sure how it happened but at this moment there are both kits on this site but BOTH have my name Larry Peters. How do I change the B....2 kit name to Brendan? None of the FAQs help me.

    Thanks for any help.

    Just edit the name in the profile.

    While you can still edit your post (only for 10-15 minutes), could you please change the actual kit numbers to something like B.....9 and B.....2 ?

    We (readers of the forum) do not need them.

      There are many items on the screen, so it might not be obvious how to Manage Personal Information.

      Please use this direct linkwhile logged in as your brother.

        I believe I have done this.

        Right-clicking on the top right where it says Larry Peters Kit B.....2 I get a dropdown where I choose My Profile. This takes me to a tabbed page where I changed the contact information to be Brendan, etc. I can get to the same page from My Dashboard where I click the link which says Manage Personal Information. The https://www.familytreedna.com/my/account-information link also takes me to the same place.

        However after I logout and re-login it still says Larry Peters Kit B....2 on the top right and My Dashboard still shows Larry Peters instead of Brendan.

          Interesting... I am not asking whether you had pressed the SAVE button on the orange background , since it appears you were very through and methodical in your actions.

          Can you wait 24 hours and retry? FTDNA web front-end does experience occasional hiccups, as you can often read about in this forum.

          I have no other ideas.

            Yes, I did press Save. (otherwise after logging out and relogging back in I would not see Brendan in the Account Information tab page, would I?).

            I'll wait 24 hours and see...

              Problem solved.

              I waited three hours and then logged in.
              Everything is now OK.

                I am glad that you made it work!


                Since you are in Australia, could you possibly comment on the other thread here?
