    Hi there!
I did the Family Tree DNA test and found out that my paternal haplogroup is R-M198. Then I did the Genographic Project DNA-test saying my paternal haplogroup is R-CTS4179. Is this a contradiction or what? And why are the results not the same? They are the same on my mothers side, both tests.
    Anyone knows?
    Greetings from Johan, Sweden

FTDNA only gives you a basic haplogroup prediction based on your first 12marker values (STR testing).

R-CTS4179 is also R-M198 in this instance, it is just further up the tree

If you click on your SNP and Haplotree page, every SNP between M198 and CTS4195 will also be positive if you tested these SNPs(ones that follow branch back to M198).

You would have to do additional SNP testing (not STR testing) if you would like FTDNA to place you further into the R tree then their predicted branch.
