It's interesting to see you don't belong to the Frisian cluster, afterall.

I've read what David Faux says about S21+: It seems he has finally

estabilished it's a typical Germanic marker. I'd wait for more results from

other parts of Europe before being so sure though.

Is there anyone here besides me who is believed to belong to that R1bSTR28 cluster?

I noted already that of the STR28s who have provided or can provide info on their ancestral origins, there are entries from England, Ireland, Scotland, Scandinavia, and Western Europe (not including Iberia, which has its own column on John McEwan's chart). Thus far, there are no STR28s from Wales or Iberia, among other places.

I wonder about the Irish and Scottish entries. Are there English surnames behind those? I seem to find my Irish and Scottish near-hits almost invariably have English surnames.

I also wonder about the "Western Europe" entries. From which countries do they come? Germany? France? The Netherlands? Switzerland? ???

STR28 has 10% of the Scandinavian entries. That seems siginificant until one realizes there are only 10 Scandinavians involved in John's chart. That means 1 of them is STR28. STR28 could still be significant in Scandinavia. We won't know until more Scandinavian R1bs submit their info to John for classification. Obviously most of the other R1b clusters have no Scandinavian entries thus far. It may by significant that STR29 has 4 of the 10 Scandinavian entries.

My results are still pending further testing. They said they were having trouble with some of my SNP's. It's going to take another five weeks for them to finish it. My Haplogroup page has all R1b's on it, R1b, R1b1, R1b1c, and R1b1c6.
The results so far:
M173+ M207+ M269+ M343+ P25+ M126- M153- M160- M18- M222- M65- M73- SRY2627-
They test each one three times right?
Does that mean that if I get two out of three positives for a marker that is the haplogroup they put me in?

M207+ That is what makes you a member of the big, happy R family.

M173+ Makes you R1.

Skip all the R1a stuff. You aren't R1a.

M343+ That makes you R1b.

P25+ That makes you R1b1.

M18- This means you are not R1b1a.

M73- Means you are not R1b1b.

M269+ That means you are R1b1c.

M37? You are still waiting for this one (like the rest of us). If the result is positive, you are R1b1c1.

M65- You are not R1b1c2.

M126- You are not R1b1c3.

M153- You are not R1b1c4.

M160- You are not R1b1c5.

SRY2627 (M167)- You are not R1b1c6.

M222- You are not R1b1c7 (the Northwest Irish subclade).

P66? You are still waiting for this one (like the rest of us). If you test positive for it, you will be a member of R1b1c8.

FTDNA does not currently test for the SNPs in red above. If you test negative for M37 and P66, you could belong to one of the subclades in red. On the other hand, you could have an as yet undiscovered SNP even further downstream from the ones in red.

At any rate, if you do test negative for M37 and P66, you will be classed as R1b1c*.

Testing positive for any of the SNPs that define a subclade is enough to make you a member of that subclade.

If you were R1b1c6, you would have had a positive result at SRY2627 (M167).

Do you have a positive result there?

I am negative for that SNP and I too have a couple of distant R1b1c6s listed under my 12-marker 4-step mutations folks.

I also have two Ns and an O listed as four steps away from me at 12 markers!

If you were R1b1c6, you would have had a positive result at SRY2627 (M167).

There is an informative chart of R1b clusters by region of origin here.

My putative cluster, STR28, has entries from England, Ireland, Scotland, Scandinavia, and Western Europe (outside the Iberian Peninsula, which is listed separately under its own heading).

I guess we'll know more when we get more folks in that cluster tested.

What I did when I got my Ethnoancestry SNP results was to edit my ysearch information by adding them to the last section "Additional Information about Paternal Line." My ysearch ID is 6M79M - you can see them there.

Since FTDNA is the company that runs ysearch.org and they now offer deep clade testing, perhaps they will change the format for inputting information to include a field for SNP results/haplogroup.

I just got my partial Deep SNP-R1b results back from FTDNA.

I guess all I lack is M37 and P66, like just about everyone else.

I'm happy though. At least I have confirmation that I am R1b1c, and I have some infomartion to think about, learn about, and maybe speculate about.

And I got this information early! My target date wasn't until July 17th!
