  • Maternal Grandfather's Line

I have a confirmed female Native American ancestor from my maternal grandfather. Marie Sauteuse (Chippewa) who is my 6th great-grandmother. The ancestry varies from male to female, and seems to alternate from her.

Is there any DNA test that could confirm this? The Ancestry DNA test (my sister had it done) didn't show anything.

You can see the line in the attachment.

    Thanks!
    Chris

If she is not in your direct female line (mothers mothers mother, ect back to her) then mtDNA testing will NOT help.

The only test at FTDNA that may shed light on it will be Family Finder which test all lines (similar to ancestry test)but even at that may not detect it due to her being a 6th Great Grandmother.

If you have someone from an earlier generation to test, it may be a better option (Parent, Aunt, Uncle)

Upload your sister's raw data from Ancestry to GEDmatch. They have several Admixture Utilities.

So the AncestryDNA did not show anything, but you can explore the trees of your matches at Ancestry. That could possibly be a rich source of information.

Do any of the trees have Native American (NA) ancestry? Also, look in the index of the trees.
