  • Validity of old kit

    Hi,
I purchased a kit last summer to bring from VA to NY, in order to test some cousins, on the occasion of my Dad's 93rd birthday. The test hadn't arrived before we left for the birthday, so was sitting in it's original envelope for the year. This summer I had faulty air conditioning for several months. So I'm wondering if time, temperature and humidity would rendered the Family Finder test useless at thus point. I still have several cousins interested in taking the test.

Also, how long does a test usually take to be fully processed and posted to the website? Thanks,

    Stacie

I've distributed kits that are several years old with successful results; in some cases to people who mailed them back on a really cold winters day.

If the sample isn't usable, Family Tree DNA will mail a new collection kit to whatever address is on file for the kit.

It don't think an old kit will be a problem unless, it is a kit that has sat around after the sample was taken, or vials with solution have been opened.
