Family finder and Haplogroup

When I send in my DNA with and order a family finder, will it also tell my my Y haplogroup? Or do I need to also order a Y DNA test in order to get that basic information. I am not looking for a 37 or 67 marker test yet, just a haplogroup. If the haplogroup matches, I would likely upgrade, but I hate to spend the money if the haplogroup is not what I expect.

Family Finder is Autosomal DNA test. It will not give you any information about mtDNA/Y-DNA.

But, what do you mean when you said you hate to spend the money if the haplogroup is not what you expect ?

Family Finder is an autosomal DNA test, involving the 22 pairs of autosomal chromosomes and x chromosome(s). It doesn't test the y chromosome at all. You would need to order a yDNA test as a separate test to get the haplogroup.

FTDNA is able to confidently predict the yDNA haplogroup with only 12 STRs in almost all cases. If they can't confidently predict the haplogroup based on the 12 markers, they'll give you a free backbone SNP test that will tell you your basic haplogroup.
