  • Three confused 3rd cousins

Wow, We are the closest cousins in our "Hamilton" lineage. We have all done our Family Finder kits and one of us is a Male Hamilton Y-DNA kit member (Joe.) We are all either 3rd cousins or closer than half 3rd cousins due to 2nd great grandfather married to sisters (Nancy & Mary) and to top that off, the other female (Mae) 3rd cousin's great grandpa married a daughter of another of 3rd sister (Martha)

    Our results are confusing:

    Joe & Mae
Comparing 28826 (*SCH) and 270782 (*Mae Clark)

Chr Start Location End Location Centimorgans (cM) SNPs
    2 4,295,348 11,909,579 20.6 2,336
    6 151,078,143 163,901,377 20.2 4,046
    10 49,375,167 76,716,746 26.5 6,887

    Laura & Mae
Comparing Kit F392011 (*DigMyPast) and 270782 (*Mae Clark)

Minimum threshold size to be included in total = 700 SNPs
    Mismatch-bunching Limit = 350 SNPs
Minimum segment cM to be included in total = 7.0 cM

Chr Start Location End Location Centimorgans (cM) SNPs
    1 72,017 9,030,158 20.8 2,448
    4 61,566 5,094,575 7.6 1,028
    7 136,416,112 142,028,034 9.6 1,423
    12 64,558,999 85,053,985 18.4 4,544

    Laura & Joe
Comparing Kit F392011 (*DigMyPast) and KIT 28826 (*SCH)

Minimum threshold size to be included in total = 700 SNPs
    Mismatch-bunching Limit = 350 SNPs
Minimum segment cM to be included in total = 7.0 cM

Chr Start Location End Location Centimorgans (cM) SNPs
    13 110,805,747 114,108,121 7.3 865

    Largest segment = 7.3 cM
    Total of segments > 7 cM = 7.3 cM
Estimated number of generations to MRCA = 7.5

Why do I show up in only Chromo 13 with Joe? and Joe & Mae share Chromos that Mae & I do not share?

    Maybe this will help

    Here, this might help

    DigMyPast
    aka Laura

    ps
we think there might have been an error in a kit, so I redid mine and did one on my 96 year old father. Those results will probably take 6 to 8 more weeks
