  • Gifting a test to a relative

If I gift a test to a relative, by going into my own account and ordering the kit to be sent to their address and paying for it, how are the results accessed?

Will they be on my account so I can access the matches, or will there be a separate account that they can access and I cannot, or can it be either or both?

It is important I know this as I'm not sure yet whether they will want to be checking out the matches and contacting some, or whether they will want me to do that.

    Thanks.

New Persons order shouldn't be placed from your kit, although as long as you select "Add another Kit" in Shopping Cart and creating New kit it will work.

New Kit will have its own account and log in. You can not have multiple people on one account.

When ordering, enter your email address with shipping address as testers address (or have it shipped to yourself and send it yourself to tester)
You will be emailed the new kit number and login password.

If tester would like access to account you can share the login info for that kit with them.

You should discuss with them first if they want control of kit, their email address as primary and displayed to matches).

Email addresses used in Contact Information is used by FTDNA to identify kit holder if an issue arises (ie forgotten password).

I always give those that I have tested the option of access/control so that if they so choose at some point they can remove my access.

Hi thanks, that is exactly the advice I needed thanks.

I wanted to understand all that so I could ask the relative whether they wanted to manage the account themselves, or for me to do it. And of course, if I manage it, they can still get access to it if I give them the password, and vice versa, but I just need to make sure I set it up right at the beginning.

I presume at any time whoever controls the account can change the identifying email to the other person's email?

anyone that can log in to kit, has the potential to change any info. Logging in gives full access.

FTDNA does not offer a "guest access"

Although they offer the option of setting up a Family Finder project, where the kit holders can join and solely control kits access.

Project admin can then view results but will have limited access to various settings and Raw Data based on the Kit holders personal privacy settings. Kit holder can even change password with out affecting the project admin viewing of results. If kit holder wants to remove admins viewing access, they just have to remove themselves from project.
