  • 67 Markers

Just got my results, and was classified as E-L117 or E-M35.1, and I'm rather angry, I was already classified as such by 23andme, that's why I tested with FTDNA and I thought that 67 markers covered deep clade testing such as M34 or V13.

yDNA 67 only tests yDNA STR's

STR testing only gives you a basic haplogroup prediction based on first 12 markers

For deeper Haplogroup placement you would have to do SNP testing.

I see. And after being batched, how long does a SNP testing take on average?

Although 67 markers does not include SNP testing, you can often make a pretty good guess based on your matches. I suggest you ask the E-M35 project administrator for assistance before ordering any SNP tests. (If you have already placed a SNP test order, you can call by Wednesday afternoon to cancel or change it.)

Just yesterday, someone in my project got his 67 markers, and is classified by FTDNA merely as E-L117. But his Y-DNA Haplogroup Origins page says that at 25 markers, a distance-2 match is E-PF1962. The Y-DNA Haplotree & SNPs page shows that PF1962 is along the line
        L117 > Z827 > CTS10298 > PF1962

At 67 markers, he clearly belongs to a cluster that this project calls E-Z830*-A.

Unfortunately, he ordered the V13 SNP test, which is on a completely different branch:
        L117 > L546 > L544 > L618 > CTS1975 > L542 (same level as V13)

I will have to send him an email urging him to change his order before it's too late.

The E-M35 project likewise calls that cluster Z830*, but YFull asserts that PF1962 is one level more specific than Z830.

You could order the PF1962 SNP test. According to YFull's haplotree, PF1962 is a reliable SNP at the E-M34 level.

FTDNA's haplotree implies that M34 is more specific than PF1962, so you could instead order the M34 SNP test itself; but that might increase the risk of a negative result.

I'm not familiar with 23andMe, but I would guess that the two advantages are that you can see other YDNA matches and get an estimate of how closely you are related.
