What dose undifferentiated mean please ?

When I press on my Y Badge results it says
Your Predicted Haplogroup is R-M269

The undifferentiated R1 lineage is quite rare. It is found only at very low frequencies in Europe, Central Asia, and South Asia. This lineage possibly originated in Europe and then migrated east into Asia.

Based on your Y DNA STR test results, FTDNA predicted that you belong to the branch named R-M269.

When pressing/clicking on your Y-DNA Haplogroup Badge you should be directed to the page https://www.familytreedna.com/my/y-dna-haplotree/. And there you can see the message that should not be there... But also you should see the branches of haplogroup R:

• R itself is sometimes written as R-M207, it has at least two branches, they are
• __R-M173 (R1) and R-M479 (R2); then R-M173 has at least two branches, they are
• ____R-M420 (R1a) and R-M343 (R1b); then there is branching below R-M343 etc. until you get to R-M269, that also has branches...

Hi Darren I'm not very good with these things dose this mean it's a falt with the test or the sample or is R undifferentiated a branch of R1 I mean like Karim says Thank you.

The meaning of the message is like Karim has stated.****

However!

• The message is not applicable to you, it is being displayed on that page in error.
• Very many people have that erroneous (as in not applicable to them) message.
• Thank you for posting about it here; many seen it, nobody took time to ask...
• Meaning of the Darren post was that FTDNA is aware of the incorrect message, but it will take them some time to remove it (and no ETA at this moment).

**** Putting Karim's post in different words:

If one belongs to Y DNA haplogroup R1, then it happened that most of men who tested at Family Tree DNA belong to one of the two branches (subclades) of R1 named haplogroup R1a (sometimes name haplogroup R-M420 is used) and haplogroup R1b (sometimes name haplogroup R-M343 is used). There are very few who are R1, but are neither R1a nor R1b.

This is something that has been reported and needs to be updated. It would be rare for someone to be just R1 and no further downstream haplogroup. Several broad haplogroups in the R branch have this message listed. I am sorry for the inconvenience this causes.
