  • Irish Scottish Ancestry

Hi, I have been using the chromosome browser to look at matches with my DNA from a sample of Irish/Scottish families. I have found areas of 5000 to 2500 matching SNPs on chromosome 7 for the names: McKelvey,McIlveen (2) and Keith. So 4 people match with me at this level. Is this a fairly common trait among people of Irish descent ? Are other poeople aware of this cluster ? Does it indicate deep common ancestry ?

Hi brownfulk, where on Chr 7 is this cluster? I have Scottish ancestry and seem to have a lot of matches with Irish connections. I have a cluster of matches at around 88000000 - 111000000 on Chr 7. None of the surnames you mention are in my tree though.
