I have a few questions. What are the x chromosomes and where are they inherited from?I know you get on from your mother and father but from which great grandparents considering this do you inherit your nuclear dna from in your somatic cells? Thanks.

The X chromosome is produced by a process called meiosis. When eggs and sperm are produced the chromosomes in the egg or sperm are 'built' from both sets of the person's chromosomes. A little bit of one parent's contribution followed by a little bit of the others's contribution and so on. Each chromosome in the egg or sperm (Except Y) is a patchwork of both parents' dna and each is unique.

A bit of google searching should find a suitable explanation, http://evolution.berkeley.edu/evosit...gdetails.shtml gives a basic explanation.
