  • Advanced matching re: Family Finder

1.What is the difference between "not a match" and "no result" in the Advanced Matches Family Finder column?

    2. In Advanced Matches, how can a Y match not also be a match in the Family Finder?

    • Not A Match Somebody has completed a test, let's say HVR1, but is not matching.
    • No Result Somebody has not completed the test, for example HVR1. That can be instantly confirmed by looking at the descriptions of the tests the person had taken (tests taken are listed under the name).
    • Female used when requesting Y DNA matching, but the match belonged to a female (who do not have Y DNA).

Because Y DNA match could be beyond the level of relationship Family Finder can test (5th-6th cousin). Similarly a person matching mtDNA (genetic distance of 0) could be beyond the level of relationship Family Finder can test.

    W.

P.S. It is weird, but a female tester can (in Advanced Matches) select matching using Y DNA. Does anyone know what would be the benefit of using it?
