I wasn't saying that the two of you should get the BigY test. I was saying there is no way to determine if your son has an SNP that you do not without a BigY or FullGenomes test. There is no good reason to do that.

Anyone who says that they have no 111 matches should know that their sons ,brothers, first, second, third, fourth, fifth cousins etc.etc.are all close at 111 markers and all have the same SNPs. When we get ydna tested we are making public the dna of all of these.

As it was just explained in a different thread ( http://forums.familytreedna.com/show...105#post397105 ) sons, brothers etc. do not need to have the same SNP, and the difference can be more than one SNP.

Maybe this is why they have different predicted Haplogroups.

I don't believe EdP has told us that either he or his son did any SNP testing.

There are multiple groups of paternal lines in a region that I deal with that have not built up slowly and they still have different presumed positive SNPs. In one paternal line some are R-M269 and some are R-P311, the same with another paternal line, in another some are E-L117 but one got a free backbone test and therefore shows to be tested positive for a different SNP on the same level. Some that are are for sure R-P312 only get a presumed R-L151 but others that have less markers are presumed to be R-P312. In another forum a person was presumed positive for R-L21 but turned out to be R-DF27 after getting tested. It doesn't make sense what FTDNA is doing.

I doubt very much that either he or his son did any SNP testing. The difference in the SNPs is very likely due to the strange way FTDNA is considering people presumed positive.
