  • mtDNA X NorthAmerica vs. European

Just received my mtDNA HVR1 and HVR2 results putting me in the X Haplogroup. Very interesting, unfortunately my last known mtDNA ancestor in my paper trail is from Prince Edward Co, Ontario around 1800 and from my reading of the literature could be either European or Native American. Is there any way to tell an X(NA) from and X(E) from my mutations?

    HVR1: 129A, 183C, 189C, 223T, 278T, 519C
    HVR2: 073G, 153G, 195C, 225A, 226C, 263G, 309.1C, 315.1C

My mutations are pretty much the same as yours except you have 129A which I don't. My most distant maternal ancestor is a Micmac Indian from Nova Scotia born in 1610. FTDNA has my haplogroup as N* I sent my results to another company who placed me in haplogroup X. X is found in native populations where my ancestor is from, but N* is not. Good luck in your search.

L3 branched into two , M and N and X is one of the haplogroups from N.
