  • TESTING DIDN'T MATCH ME TO MY UNCLE

Before my uncle (mother's oldest brother) passed away a couple of years ago, I paid to have Y67 DNA testing performed thru FTDNA in an attempt to connect our family with the Palatines who came from Germany in 1709-1710. Recently I did testing through Ancestry.com to dig further into my Finnish roots, and last week FTDNA let me download my raw autosomal data from ancestry into FTDNA. I fully expected to see my uncle show up in my "matches," but he did not. I know my mom and uncle both had the same mother, so shouldn't he have been matched to me? Thanks.

You cannot compare Y-DNA and autosomal DNA. If you had a Family Finder test on your uncle then you could expect to see a match with your transferred data.

        Family Finder Test

FYI, whoever owns your uncle's FTDNA account may be able to order autosomal DNA results (Family Finder) for your uncle, assuming FTNA has a sample of his DNA in storage from the Y-DNA test.

Your mtDNA would match your maternal uncle's--but you didn't test mtDNA.
