  • Autosomal DNA

Hello, I have a question. I've had me my mother and her brother tested using the autosomal at Ancestry.com and so far I have only transferred my results to FTDNA. My question is can my uncles autosomal DNA be transferred to Y-DNA. He is the only male to ask on this family line and id hate to have to ask again for a sample. I'm the only one in the family into all this genealogy.lol

    Thank you,

    Sandy

If his test was through FTDNA Then they would still have his in storage. But if it was transferred to FTDNA From another lab then you would need to have a kit sent again.

Autosomal DNA and Y-DNA are two completely different parts of the DNA -- apples and oranges. Ancestry only tests the autosomal DNA. So if you transfer your uncle's results to FTDNA, you'll only get Family Finder results.

The DNA sample itself isn't transferred -- just the raw results from the autosomal test.

So to test your uncle for Y-DNA, you would need to purchase a Y-DNA test and have him submit new swabs to FTDNA.
