Most distant ancestor?

I understand my son's most distant paternal ancestor. But for the most distant maternal ancestor, do I enter my (me, his mother) father's most distant line or my mother's most distant paternal or maternal ancestor?

Your mother's mother's mother's mother etc(as far back as you can go)
