  • Finding my Maternal G-Grandfather, Grandfather

I am male and I am wondering what test I would use to find out more information about my grandfather and great-grandfathers, both though the maternal lines. We have names (possibly made up) but nothing else. I understand the yDNA line would not pass through the female so my best choice would be autosomal and/or mtDna? My first choice would be to find anyone from that line at all.

MtDNA would go thru just the straight maternal line -- mother, mother's mother, mother's mother's mother and so on.

Would say if have not done Family Finder, definitely do so. A second cousin is a grandchild of a sibling of your grandfather, a 3rd cousin is a great-grandchild of a sibling of your great-grandfather.
