  • Missing haplogroup

I am not sure who to ask but having done the y12 test at the who do you think you are show in the uk I have received my str results. However I do not have a haplogroup. I have emailed support but heard nothing. Is it normal to not get a haplogroup. Sorry to ask but with no feedback from support I don't know what else to do.

If you have a regular FTDNA account, either:
    - FTDNA's computer program will predict a haplogroup for you within a day or two, or
    - FTDNA staff will order a basic haplogroup test (so-called Backbone Test) in order to determine your haplogroup.

If you sent an email to [email protected] , you should get a response about this--again, within a few days.

Can you tell us your 12 markers? We humans may be able to predict (or at least guess) your haplogroup.

      Thanks

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I emailed them on 27th of March and still no reply. Do they inform you that they will do a backbone test or do you have to ask? My results are :

      PANEL 1 (1-12)
      Marker DYS393 DYS390 DYS19** DYS391 DYS385 DYS426 DYS388 DYS439 DYS389I DYS392 DYS389II***
      Value 14 22 15 10 13-17 12 12 10 14 10 30

Any help gratefully received. It was a birthday present so I'm disappointed I only have a bunch of numbers!

      Kind regards

My best guess is that you belong to the R2 haplogroup. Take a look at these distant near-matches (yes, that's an oxymoron):
        Purackal of India
        Abraham of India
        Desai of India
        Asim of India
        Krishna of India

          Wow

We have a mystery in the family and my great great great grandfather was born in Bombay although I'm English with no other Indian relatives! Thanks I'll have a look.

            More questions!

The matches you suggested are ftdna tested, how come I can't get them as matches in ftdna?

Also do you or anyone else know how long it would take the help team to respond to an email?

            Kind regards

              Hello,

Our helpdesk if facing an extreme backlog with many more incoming e-mails than in previous years and new staff members coming up to speed on our products. Some answers may take 5 to 7 business days to research and answer.

                1) The near-matches I listed are much too distant to be considered true matches by FTDNA. They are close enough to predict your haplogroup, but not your ancestor's surname.

                2) I suspect that tomorrow afternoon (American time), you will get an email informing you that a basic haplogroup test has been ordered on your kit, to be included in the batch sent to the lab on Wednesday night. By Thursday morning, this basic test should show up in your account (as Batched or In Progress or some such).

                  Thanks

                  Rebeckah

Thanks for letting me know. Just a polite suggestion could you put that on the standard email response as it would manage expectations.

                  I will be more patient

                  Thanks
