  • Shape of chromosome on FF matches page

What is the significance of the shape of the chromosomes in the Family Finder program? Why is one side longer than the other? Does a match on one side tell something? What if the match crosses over (extends) from one side to the other?
    Thanks...Gary1

The chromosome browser attempts to show the relative length and form of each chromosome. The gray areas are not sampled as they are SNP poor. The mid-point is the centromere and there are arms going out from the centromere. Sometimes there is a long arm and a short arm. I do not know of any significance to a matching segment extending across the centromere.

Here is a link to an article with a diagram.
