My father and I share no matches in family finder

My father and I come up in family finder as father and son, however we do not match any of the same people. Why is this??? I find it strange that we match no one. Granted, some of my matches should be on my mothers side of the family but you would think that I would share matches with some of the same people my father matches.

If you or your father's results are recent then give it some time. The process may not yet be complete.

Well, we just came up with one person in common...but I would have thought more since we show were father in son through DNA

If you father is from an ethnic group not commonly tested like say Polynesian and and your mother is from a very commonly tested ethnic group like Jewish... almost all your matches will be on your Jewish mom's side.

Regardless as mentioned above you probably just need to wait.

A sticky question that can pose a great deal of angst for many, this is not well understood by FTDNA, this angst can be terrifying for some, but as has been said, give it time at least 3 months my wife and her father did not show as a match for two months, my cousin and i have never shown as a match after 2 years and the only matches in common in Family Finder are 5th Cousins remote, so not even worthy of further investigations, it would appear though that the people who are most successful in matching are those who have many relatives from 3 or 4 generations that have completed full testing, an expensive project but the best way to get the best out of FTDNA.
It's also little understood by FTDNA that a majority are not willing to undergo an under-graduate course to understand how to interpret results, they want green button go, red button stop results, simple really if you have the IT experts to create it.

Barbara, I know from your other thread that you feel you are totally lost. I don't know of any "undergraduate" course (which would be helpful), but it does take time to get the lingo, etc. You just have to keep reading and asking questions.

These problems shouldn't exist anymore, if your "cousin" is a 2nd cousin or further there is a known chance you will not match. If you are believed to be 1st cousins with this person and they don't match you there is no blood relationship.

There seems to be something seriously wrong here; you really do need to contact the helpdesk and ask for a senior staff member oto explain to you as to why this has happened. Unless the data was still uploading to your profile I can see no explanation for this . You need to follow up and post the results here so that others who have the same problem can find answErs to their questions. Also look at FAQ under family finder on the main website.
