How do I put umlauts into Family Tree Maker, so Gnaegi (the Anglicized version) appears as Gnägi (the correct spelling).

The only 'trick' I know is to insert the ä symbol in a word document, then copy and paste it into Family Tree Maker.

    Would this help?
    http://german.about.com/library/blcharcodes.htm

It shows key commands for German accents, etc. See if they work within FTM for you.
